During World War II the US Navy used small motor boats that were armed with machineguns and torpedoes. Their hull code was PT and thus they became generally known as PT Boats. In the new game PT Boats: Knights of the sea you command one of those vessels: you can either man the guns yourself (action mode) or are responsible for a whole group of the boats (simulation mode). The game offers more than 50 nautical vehicles, among them are submarines, destroyers and battleships.
The Russian developers at Akella caused quite a stir in 2007 when they released the DirectX 10 benchmark PT Boats: Knights of the Sea - logged in PCGH members can download the benchmark below). Although the final game doesn't look much better, the STORM 2.5 Engine is nevertheless able to deliver for an impressive visualization of water - including Soft Particles - and in combination with the HDR lighting a dense atmosphere is created. The renderer supports MSAA and uses the CPU version Nvidia's Physx for the physics calculations.
